This is the latest advertising campaign by Durex, one of the world's biggest condom producers. Passengers taking Metro Line No.1 and No.2 may see the advertisement several times during their journey, as the screens onboard play the segment twice within 15 minutes.
The city's business watchdog has launched an investigation to determine whether the ad violates China's advertisement law. It was reported that the advertisement has also been aired in dozens of office buildings around the city.
A regulation issued by the State Industrial and Commercial Administration in 1989 said airing advertisements depicting sexual life-related products was banned. It also clarified in 1998 that condoms were sexual life-related products.
The city's Metro cabin once displayed a condom poster under the theme of "Trojan Story" last July, but the ad was immediately removed by the watchdog.
